April 11th will mark the 56th anniversary of the passage of the landmark Fair Housing Act, which prohibited discrimination concerning the sale, rental, and financing of housing based on race, religion, national origin, and, as amended, sex, handicap, and family status. The legislation was a significant step forward in the ongoing struggle for civil rights and equality, forming a foundation that continues to be built upon to this day.
