Norman Morris Named LR CEO
Louisiana REALTORS® has named Noman Morris as the new Chief Executive Officer of the statewide organization, effective immediately.  Morris has been serving as interim CEO since March.

"The officers felt strongly that Norman is the right person to lead our organization," said LR President Matt Ritchie of Alexandria.  "He has remarkable knowledge of our profession and the issues we face, and he has a proven record of results for REALTORS® in Louisiana.  Norman not only knows our industry, he is well respected amongst our members, his peers, and the public."

Before taking over as interim CEO, Morris served for 18 years as senior vice president and chief lobbyist of LR.  He was responsible for the overall operation and management of two LR political action committees, LARPAC and Friends of Louisiana Real Estate PAC.  Morris is a native of Shreveport, and has an undergraduate degree from Louisiana Tech and an M.B.A. from Southeastern Louisiana University.  He is currently president-elect of the Louisiana Society of Association Executives and holds the REALTOR® Associaton Certified Executive Designation from the American Society of Association Executives and the REALTOR® Association Certified Executive from the National Association of REALTORS®.  He resides in Baton Rouge with his wife, Sheri, and daughter, Maurie.

"It's a tremendous honor to receive this vote of confidence from the officers,"  Morris said.  "I am looking forward to working with LR members, as well as the 13 local associations around the state to advance the profession and promote the benefits REALTORS® bring to the clients they serve."

Louisiana REALTORS® is a professional trade association serving nearly 11,000 members.  As one of the largest trade associations in Louisiana, LR represents its membership on important real estate-related issues to state and federal government, while providing legal assistance, professional development, discounts and unique services for its members.  Louisiana REALTORS® has been the voice for real estate in Louisiana for 96 years.  For more information, please visit www.larealtors.org.

OPEN HOUSE/TOURS REMINDER Re Property Safety
This is a reminder that when holding open houses please lock away valuables, money, drugs, etc.  We received a rport this week of medication and jewelry being stolen during an open house.  We also advise that you ask for an ID of people entering the house.  More than likely an agent will have a business card.  If the person is not an agent ask for any photo ID.  You should a sign in sheet and you may want to write down their driver's license.  Please report any incidents to us so that we can in turn advise the members.  It's better to be safe than sorry!

School Needs Children's Books!
Six years ago, KIPP Central City Primary opened with their first class - 96 kindergarteners.  They have since grown to 525 students in grades K-4 and are now concentrating on raising expectations for the students by improving the learning environment.

Literacy has become their most important focus.  Research shows that the more exposure children have to books, the grater their love of reading.  To that end KIPP CCP is in the process of creating their very first school library.  And they need help to make this dream a reality.

KIPP CCP needs donations of hardback children's books.

As most REALTORS® know, de-cluttering and donating items are part of the steps most people take when selling or buying and moving to a new home.  So, please forward this email to your clients and ask for the hardback children's books that they no longer want.  It might also be a good time for a little "spring cleaning" at your house, as well!

A collection box will be at both NOMAR's Metairie and Mandeville offices from June 9th until August 15th.  Please donate!

UPCOMING EVENTS

Want to Learn How to be a Commercial Tenant Rep?
Save the date ... Thursday, September 18th is "Rookie School".  CID is bringing in Gregory Schenk to teach his Relationship Approach to Business:  Tenant Representation A to Z.  Course is geared towards agents in the business two years or less.

Agents will learn the difference between a transaction approach to business and a relationship approach to business; how to develop those relationships; and the history of tenant representation - why it started, whether they should be in this niche or not, by itself or with the listing side of the business.  The agent will learn about lease clauses and why "mastering the market and process" is so important.

Agents learning this technique will be able to help their clients through the process of a lease renewal or relocation to lease, purchase or invest and will be better prepared to save the clients time and money!

So, save the date and stay tuned for more information ....
