FANO Community Support Fund Created for Rental and Utility Assistance During COVID-19

The Finance Authority of New Orleans (FANO) has announced the establishment of their Community Support Fund (CSF) in response to the Coronavirus (COVID-19). These funds will help Orleans Parish residents who qualify with rent or utility assistance in the wake of the pandemic.

Funds will be awarded to potential homebuyers and existing homeowners who qualify as part of the vulnerable populations disproportionately affected by COVID-19. The CSF is designed to complement FANO’s other community assistance programs and resources. In addition to providing rent and utility assistance, the CSF will also develop a transition plan for each potential homebuyer to ensure they are prepared for a post-COVID-19 environment.

“This is an extremely difficult time for all New Orleanians, especially for those who have lost loved ones, income, or have experienced other hardships that prevent their ability to maintain a stable home,” said Damon Burns, FANO’s President and CEO. “Our mission with this Fund, and with our other programs, is to provide financial products that improve the quality of life in New Orleans, with a focus on affordable housing, job creation and environmental protection,” Burns said.

The CSF primarily focuses on potential homebuyers and homeowners within Orleans Parish who have suffered a substantial loss of income due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Qualifications include but are not limited to the following: reduction in job compensation, an obligation to be absent from work to care for home-bound school-aged child(ren), or job loss. Funding will be pooled into two categories for disbursement:

Category 1

Rental assistance with a maximum benefit amount of $500 per household 

Category 2

Utility assistance with a maximum benefit amount of $75 per household

Keller Williams International Day of service Red Day 2020 was May 14th  this year! This event is an integral part of the Keller Williams culture. It displays the extraordinary impact a company can have when individuals come together to work as a team. Keller Williams 504-207-2007 partnered with Eden House as this years project. Eden House is a movement to eradicate the trafficking and selling of human beings. They create systemic change through: youth prevention; education and legislative advocacy, and recovery and reentry services for victims, including long-term shelter.

We are so proud of our agents and all who helped donate for Red Day. We were able to fill boxes of supplies, supply a new washer, and many generous donations to Eden House of New Orleans! Thank you so much to our culture chair Samantha Andrus for planning and preparing and everyone on the culture committee for your time and help! Everyday is a great day to give back to your community. Delisha has done great things for our community. She helped provide nearly 700 hot meals for front liners in this pandemic (nurses, doctors, police, firemen, and postal workers). She enlisted the help of one of her favorite locally owned restaurants to cook the meals. So, that act sowed into a small and locally owned restaurants while providing a meal for our first responders. A restaurant that was struggling after the stay home mandate went into affect. This gesture is truly invaluable. It was during the first couple of weeks of the stay home mandate when emotions were high and fear was setting in for most. Today she partnered with some other people to hand out hundreds of FREE masks to help fight COVID-19. 
She received personal notes from nurses and doctors grateful for a hot lunch. It meant so much to them to know they are praised and appreciated. People picked masks today saying they were grateful because they couldn't afford to pick them up.

I wanted to give a shot out to Eric Hernandez, NOLA Living Realty, who has been extremely generous in supporting our front line workers and local churches during this time.

Eric organized and funded a meal giveaway for Jefferson Parish police officers on April 3rd at Bobby Hebert's Cajun Cannon in which he provided free lunch/dinner for all of our brave officers working the frontline. On April 11 he held another event at Bobby Hebert's for front line health care workers, in which he again provided complimentary meals as well as free Avion margaritas for all attendees. Then, this past Sunday, he provided two local churches with over 200 free meals.
I hope he can get a shot out, he's so generous -- I'm so proud that he's my broker!
